Stefan Stieger hat Psychologie an der Universität Wien studiert. Den Titel Dr. rer. nat. in Psychologie erhielt er 2006 für seine Dissertation “Test-theoretical criteria of the Implicit Association Test (IAT) and the Single-Target Implicit Association Test (STIAT)”. 2012 habilitierte sich Stefan (“The measurement of implicit social cognition: Basic assumptions, methodological considerations, and examples of application”) an der Universität Wien. Nach langer Kollaboration mit Ulf-Dietrich Reips (beginnend als Praktikant an der Universität Zürich in den frühen 2000ern) arbeitete er als Post Doc 2014-2017 in der AG Reips “Methoden, Diagnostik und iScience” an der Universität Konstanz, bevor er auf eine Professur nach Österreich berufen wurde.
Stefan wurde zum Experten in der Methodik webbasierter Forschung (z.B. Online Fragebögen, Instant Messaging und Applikationen für Smartphones) und der Messung impliziter sozialer Kognitionen, was sich in der Zahl seiner Publikationen (>100), seinen regelmäßigen Tätigkeiten als Reviewer (bis heute mehr als 140 Reviews für mehr als 40 peer-reviewed Journals), Präsentationen auf Konferenzen (>100), ebenso wie sein Mitwirken in wissenschaftlichen Review- und Editorenausschüssen (z.B. General Online Research Conference: seit 2008, Association of Internet Researchers: seit 2011; Associate Editor for Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking) wiederspiegelt. Außerdem publizierte Stefan verschiedene selbst programmierte Software (programmiert z.B. mit Perl) und Web-Applikationen. Zusätzlich entwickelt er Applikationen für Smartphones und hat bereits mehrere Smartphone-App-Studien durchgeführt und betreut.
